Everyone in my gym changing room swears by sugaring over waxing. Is it actually different or is it the same thing rebranded?
Been waxing my legs and bikini for years, perfectly happy, no complaints. But in the space of about a month three separate people have told me I should switch to sugaring and been weirdly evangelical about it.
Claims I've been given, in ascending order of suspicion:
- "it hurts way less"
- "you get less ingrowns"
- "it's better for sensitive skin because it's just sugar and lemon"
- "the hair stops growing back eventually" (this one I'm assuming is nonsense?)
The place near me charges about Β£8 more per area for sugaring than waxing, which over a year is not nothing.
I've tried googling but every result is either a sugaring salon explaining why sugaring is amazing, or a waxing salon explaining why waxing is amazing, which is not exactly a neutral evidence base.
So asking actual humans:
- has anyone switched and genuinely noticed a difference in pain or ingrowns, or was it placebo
- is it worth the extra per session
- and do therapists here actually rate it or is it mostly marketing
Also slightly related β does hair length requirement differ? I've heard you can sugar shorter hair which would honestly be the selling point for me more than anything else.
