Went in for a big change. Long-ish mid brown, wanted that soft creamy blonde balayage thing, brought three photos, was very clear it was a big shift from where I was starting.

Colourist looked at the photos, said "yes that's totally doable", didn't mention needing more than one session, didn't mention my hair's condition being an issue, didn't caveat anything really. Four and a half hours and Β£190 later I have... brassy orange-ish mid-lengths and ends that are noticeably drier than they were.

She seemed pleased with it?? Said it "looks great" and that it'll "tone down as it settles" which I now understand is not really a thing.

Now I've read up I understand you often can't get from where I was to where I wanted in one appointment, which honestly I'd have completely accepted if someone had told me that at the start. I'd have booked two sessions. That's the frustrating bit.

So genuinely asking:

- was this an unrealistic ask that she should have flagged, or did she just not deliver

- do I go back and say something, and if so what, because "I'm unhappy" feels vague and confrontational

- is it reasonable to expect her to fix it free, or partly free, or is that entitled

- and how do I avoid this next time β€” is there a specific question I should be asking at consultation?

Not looking to trash anyone, she was perfectly nice. I just don't know what's normal here and I've never complained about anything in my life.
