New tech spent the whole appointment slagging off my old nail tech's work. Am I wrong to find that off-putting?

Went to someone new last week because my usual girl was fully booked and I had a wedding coming up. Work itself was genuinely lovely, no complaints there at all.

But from about minute two it was a running commentary. "Oh dear, who did these for you?" then something about the apex being wrong, then how she'd have to "fix all of this", then a sigh about the cuticle work, then telling me my old tech was "probably self taught". At one point she took a photo of my nail before filing it down, which I still find weird.

And look, maybe she's right? I genuinely can't tell. My old set had lasted 3 weeks with no lifting, which I thought was fine, but I'm not a tech so what do I know.

What's bugging me is I walked out feeling weirdly bad about my old tech who I really like, and slightly manipulated? Like I don't know if I was given professional information or a sales pitch.

So two questions really:

Techs β€” is there a normal way to flag genuine problems with previous work without doing all that? Where's the line between honest and undermining?

And clients β€” do you take this stuff at face value? Has anyone been told their old set was terrible, switched, and then found the new work was actually worse?

Not naming anyone obviously, and I'm not going back, just want to know if my radar is calibrated properly here.
