Charged £12 to soak off gels that the SAME salon applied 3 weeks earlier. Normal now or am I right to be annoyed?
Went back to the salon that did my gels three weeks ago, this time just wanting them off because I'm giving my nails a break before a holiday. Told them at booking it was removal only.
£12. For a soak off. On their own product.
I genuinely wasn't expecting free but I also wasn't expecting half the price of the original manicure (£26) to take it off. Nobody mentioned a removal charge when I had them applied, which is the bit that's actually bugging me more than the money.
Girl who did it was lovely and thorough to be fair, did a file, pushed my cuticles back, oil at the end, took about 25 minutes. So it wasn't like she dunked me in acetone and walked off.
Since then I've been down a rabbit hole and apparently there's a whole thing where removal is free if you're rebooking but charged if you're not? Which... I sort of understand as a business thing? But then shouldn't that be on the price list somewhere?
So:
- techs, is £12 for a removal-only appointment reasonable or steep
- is it standard to not mention removal costs at the time of application
- and does anyone actually put this on their price list because I've now checked three local salons' Instagram and none of them list removal at all
Not going to kick off about £12 obviously, just want to know if I'm being naive about how this works.
