Itchy cuticles after every gel appointment for the last 4 months — everyone says it's normal but it doesn't feel normal?
Been getting gels regularly for about three years, absolutely fine the whole time. Since roughly April though, I get itchy around my cuticles for a day or two after every appointment. Not agony, just persistent, annoying itching, and lately the skin around a couple of nails looks a bit red and dry.
Mentioned it to my tech and she said it's probably just dryness from the acetone and to use more cuticle oil, which I've been doing religiously and it hasn't really changed anything.
Also — and I don't know if this is related or if I'm connecting dots that aren't there — I've had a weird patch of dry itchy skin on my eyelid since around the same time. Been putting E45 on it and blaming hayfever.
Same salon, same products, same tech the whole three years. Nothing else in my routine has changed. Which is partly why I've been ignoring it, because surely if it was the gels I'd have reacted years ago?
So:
- is itchy cuticles genuinely a normal after-effect or is that not a thing
- can you actually develop a reaction after being fine for years, or is that not how it works
- and is the eyelid thing me being dramatic or is that worth mentioning to someone
Really don't want to give up gels but also don't want to be stubbornly making something worse. Anyone had this?
